Eat Pray Love- Post #2

I have started the book eat, pray, love. It follows one woman's (Elizabeth) quest to find herself and the better things shes's been missing in life by traveling to Italy, where she eats and learns Italian, India, where she learns to pray and be more spiritul, and Indonesia, where she learns to love. So far in the book, Elizabeth has realized the her "perfect" lifestyle, or so it seemed was not really what she wanted and she was not truly happy and never had been. She had just always thought that being rich, marrying a handsome and successful man and being very accomplished in her career was what she should want. But soon after that, she came to realize that it wasn't what she wanted. She started weeping on the bathroom floor because she just wanted someone to talk to and needed advice on the current situation. For some reason, she felt impelled to pray, even though she never had before. On page 15, she says " Hello God. I'm Liz. It's nice to meet you. Please tell me what to do." And a voice clearly and kindly answered her saying, " Go back to bed Liz." . This was the first, but definitely not the last time that Liz would speak to God and grow very close to him. Before she knew it, she was goin through a long divorce, and was very depressed until it was over. After all of this which took quite some time, Elizabeth decided that she would go to the three places she'd always wanted to go: Italy, India, and Indonesia to experience things that she never had but had always yearned to do. So, before she knew it, she was in Italy eating more than she ever had and loving it. So far, Italy was really teaching her how to be content, and go with the flow in life. Also, learning Italian had always been a language that Elizabeth really wanted to learn and so she wanted to learn it no where else but Italy. She enrolled in a class and made several friends. She experienced some amazing trips to different cities, food, friends, and life in Italy so far in the book.

Why i chose Eat, Pray, Love.

For my outside reading book, I am reading the book Eat, Pray, Love. It is written by Elizabeth Gilbert. One of the reasons that I chose this book is because it is a number one New York Times Bestseller, so i figured it was probably worth reading. Anne Lamott says, "A wonderful book, brilliant and personal, rich in spiritual insight." Also, when I read the back of the book, it sounded very interesting. The story is about one woman's (Elizabeth) search for everything that she was missing out on in life by traveling to Italy, India, and Indonesia and having many experiences that changed her, her opinions, and perspectives on life forever.

12 Year Old girl Shot

Recently, a 12 year old girl was shot in Iraq on accident by U.S. soldiers because she was standing behind the truck. Shots were trying to be fired at a vehicle that accelerated towards Hurriya police station, but also hit the young girl accidentally standing in the way. The incident occurred in Hurriya in Nineveh province, according to a news release from Multi-National Corp-Iraq.The soldiers send their apologies and prayers to the girls family. This event is very tragic, along with many others from the War in Iraq. Hopefully these kinds of shootings and accidents will decrease soon.

Black War

I recently read an article about the Black War. This was between the Australian aborigines, and the British who were trying to colonize them. It took place in the early years of the 19th century. The British captured many Aborigines and tried to "civilize" them by putting them into British schools and teaching them their ways of life. But, while they were trying to be "nice" they treated the Aborigines horribly if they didn't abide to their rules. There were only a handful of aborigines left, and they lost so much of their language, and culture because of these people wanting everyone else to be like them. The war was never officially called a war, or announced, but the conflict was clearly known among them. The Aborigines were relocated to a place called Flinders Island in order for them and their children to be brought up the "clean and right way".

Enviornmental "crisis"

Recently, everyone seems to be obsessed with "going green" and "saving the planet". I agree to some extent in that we shouldn't be wasteful with our recources, and we should take care of the planet. But, some people are extremely concerned, especially about animals like the polar bear. A recent article showed that their numbers are dropping rapidly because of human threats and global warming. If current warming trends continue, this article states that two-thirds of all polar bears including all of Alaska's polar bears will be extinct by 2050! And apparently the only way to stop it is to stop global warming... Sarah Palin is quoted in saying, "I strongly believe that adding them to the list is the wrong move at this time, and my decision is based on a comprehensive review by state wildlife officials of scientific information from a broad range of climate, ice and polar bear experts." Many polar bear lovers are furious at the governor for not thinking they are in danger.

Who is Saint Patrick anyway?

We all know and love St. Patrick's Day. Its commonly known as a day to drink, party, and bring out the Irish in us all. :) A recent survey shows that almost 2/3 of the people that celebrate St. Patrick's Day, are unaware of who Saint Patrick was..... wow. Only 40% of the 2000 people at the Manchester Irish Festival knew that St. Patrick was a Christian missionary who was the patron saint of Ireland. St Patrick is commonly remembered as using a shamrock in his teachings to explain the holy concept of the holy trinity, and how God is 3 in one. He is God the father, God the son, and God the holy ghost, but still one god. This is in a way like a shamrock because there are 3 parts, but it is still one piece. The date of March 17 is the date of St. Patrick's death, and he will be remembered always for his helping in spread Christianity all through out Ireland.

Happy St. Patricks day!

Bollywood

Here's the latest in Bollywood news:

Recently, there has been a deal made between the UK and Bollywood producers. It was hard for Bollywood producers to produce movies in the UK. So, during the UK's economic downturn, they have agreed to make a deal to help Bollywood producers to work in the UK, which will then help the British movie industry to survive their economic downturn, according to the film minister. This treaty has been being worked on for almost 3 years, and is finally being finalized. So, this treaty will also make it much easier for Indian film makers to obtain tax relief by collaborating with all of the British producers in the UK.
