Codi vs. Hallie
Codi and Hallie are sisters who are completely different in many ways. In the book, Codi thinks that Hallie is the more accomplished, beautiful, and smarter than she is. Codi doesn't have enough self confidence to see herself and all the good things that she has done and can become. Hallie is more adventurous that Codi. She likes to fight for causes that she believes in, unlike Codi who doesn't believe that she really has anything to fight for in life. She admires Hallie for being so selfless but she never seems to care or try to do the same. Hallie has no sense of belonging wherever she goes and she thinks that she just hasn't found where she belongs yet so she's just been moving around her whole life basically trying to find herself. Hallie tries to give advice to Codi to help her with her problems and help her realize that she is an individual and Hallie isn't the God that Codi thinks that she is. " I am like God, Codi? Like GOD? Give me a break. If I get another letter that mentions SAVING THE WORLD, I am sending you, by return mail, a letter bomb." (pg 224) Codi also thinks that Hallie is beautiful and that all of the guys including her ex boyfriend like Hallie better and that she was just their second choice. "Every man I'd ever loved had loved Hallie best and settled for me. It didn't bother me as much as you might think; I could understand it. I loved her too."( pg 10)
