The people in Zambia have a newfound hope that they haven't had in a long time because their economy is finally growing, thanks to the copper boom. Although Zambia is still in the "bottom billion" of the world's poorest people, things are beginning to look up for them....or so the media says. Zambia has an incredibly weak economy, and trade is very slow. Their government is a mess and the people there are living in complete poverty. Hope is a powerful thing that can make a difference in people’s ability to tolerate poverty. Just this small flicker of hope with the copper boom is an amazing thing for the people of Zambia, because they are one step closer to having an even remotely stable government. So, even though they are still in poverty, it might be a little bit easier knowing that there is some hope out there and that people are listening and do care.
